About Project

This project is aimed at individuals who have a learning disadvantage, struggle with low proficiency in basic skills, and who are at risk of early school leaving. It has been prepared with the motivation to include these individuals in education in an inclusive way. Dyscalculia; Dyslexia (Special Learning Disability) is a learning disability in the subgroup. Although there are many more definitions of dyscalculia; In the most general sense, Dyscalculia is a disorder and inadequacy in comprehending and calculating mathematical relations, recognizing, using and writing numerical symbols (Butterworth, 2003). The common features of dyscalculic individuals can be summarized as follows;

On the whole, it is very difficult for students who experience these problems to adapt to normal education classes. Through planned project activities and outputs; Educators working under partner organizations for school education will be provided to develop their key competences. With the acquired transnational qualifications, Dyscalculia students will be supported to learn in an inclusive way in education. The low proficiency in basic skills of individuals with learning disabilities can be developed according to their individual differences. With the planned transnational and local activities, strengthening our teacher profession profiles, fulfilling the characteristics of being an inclusive school, every individual is included; It is aimed to support teachers and students in preventing early school leaving and developing basic skills and competencies by creating positive school climates. Early school leaving, learning disability, which is planned to be addressed, is our priority; It aims to ensure the active participation of children who have been diagnosed with dyscalculia or who are at the stage of diagnosis, in educational activities.

• Incorrect calculations due to poor memory operation,
• Very slow and difficult solving of operations involving basic mathematical skills,
• Inability to recognize the commutative property of addition and multiplication operations,
• Difficulty in demonstrating the steps and operations used in mathematical problems,
• There are many mistakes made especially due to carelessness,
• Problems related to visual and spatial functioning,
• Continuously using ten fingers in transactions,
• Difficulty comparing numbers, inability to distinguish negative and positive numbers,
• Day, week, month, seasons etc. Difficulty understanding concepts
• Difficulty in telling time, finding place and direction,
• Lack of skill in strategic planning (eg playing chess),
• Inability to understand and remember general concepts in mathematics,
• Difficulty in understanding fractions,
• Memory weakness in learning where numbers are used,
• Confusing mathematical symbols,
• Difficulty in understanding daily life problems, ordering information and events,
• Inability to draw and describe simple geometric shapes.

Students who have a specific learning disability in math (known as dyscalculia) can struggle with both simple and complex math topics. What can help students with dyscalculia?

There are concrete results to be produced within the scope of the project. These results;

• Dyscalculia Curriculum and Course Material
• Dyscalculia e-learning Module (Online Courses)
• Dyscalculia Podcasts
• Dyscalculia Field Analysis and Education Policy Recommendations.

The results will meet the needs as follows;

1) A curriculum will be created for the education of dyscalculic students.
2) Course materials will be produced especially for the dissemination of the project to large masses and the use of its results in education systems.
3) Content to be used for teacher training will be developed within the course materials.
4) Examples of activities that teachers can apply in their daily lesson activities will be prepared.
5) Practical applications will be designed to ensure the social integration of dyscalculic students and facilitate their adaptation to the classroom environment.
6) Thanks to the analyzes to be made; Dyscalculia awareness rate in project partner countries will be determined for education workers.

7) Analysis studies will be made into a printed document. A document showing the current situation regarding the project subject will be created.
8) Curriculum and educational content will be created digitally for the education of dyscalculic students.
9)Dyscalculia Podcasts will be produced especially in order to disseminate the project to large masses and to use the results in education systems.
